The Liberation of Manfire

Ask me anything You've created your own super man from a super lady? The Official List of Redraws

The purpose of this blog is to illustrate the stupidity of the poses of female characters in comic books. This blog is not necessarily related to the costumes they are given and it is not for rule 63. Critiques of the costumes and rule 63 just happen to be a byproduct of the aforementioned goal.

I asked him if I could take a picture of him and he asked, “Would you like a regular pose or the Hawkeye initiative?” I didn’t know what the second one was so I went with it just for kicks. I’m glad I did.

Bless all the Hawkeye Initiative cosplayers

May I present Manfire, the brainchild of my good friend Ashley Guillory! She has drawn him, as well as many other superhero ladies as men, over at her tumblr The Liberation of Manfire. Does this concept sound familiar? The Liberation of Manfire actually pre-dates the Hawkeye Initiative by quite a bit, and acted as one of the inspirations for that project. Go check it out, it’s hilarious and wonderful!

My wonderful and talented friend Maia made me a beautiful Manfire.

So I made four costumes in a span of about ten weeks for Fanime (muffled sobbing), and by far the most fun to put together was MANFIRE. I had planned to do a Rule 63 Nightwing for a few years, and Chris and I joked about him doing the same with the New 52 Starfire, basically wearing nothing but purple booty shorts, and thus MANFIRE was born.

This costume was a fun learning experience in armor and latex and hair bleach (who knew you could bleach facial hair?) and we had the best time debuting at Fanime 2013. It was super duper well received, and we will definitely be revisiting this with new and improved shoulder armor next time!

For now, enjoy my super photogenic manthing as Korimand’r, Prince of Tamaran, and MANFIRE!

Low and behold! One of my unknown dreams has come true. Manfire cosplay by Brozerker.
I have so many emotions about this I can’t even begin to explain them here. This is so cool. I am in awe.
To everyone who still follows this blog. I apologize nothing has been updated in a very long while. I was accepted into CCA’s MFA comics program and I have been in class a lot.
I will keep reblogging all the applicable things I have been finding and maybe some day soon I will start taking requests for redraws. If anyone else has things to submit I will try to be more prompt about posting them.
You guys are amazing <3
(p.s. sorry I wrote so much under this photo- I hope that is okay.)

So I stumbled across your tumblr, and as I just cosplayed ManFire at fanime last month, thought you might appreciate this.

oh, look this is what actual male objectification looks like

looks familiar huh?

d-do you like these though? Because they’re pretty impressive I have to admit. If someone wants to draw this well when it comes to comics I think I’m willing to swallow my pride and let male super heroes dress like this.

Yeah, I love these. I would not complain one bit if this was how male superheroes were drawn.

“Lawrence Croft” in fuller glory than the original post

Ha!

Oh my gods. xD How brilliant. And A+ to the original post.

I’d love to see a game like this, where the men are objectified and sexualized as much as the girls in other games are.

I’m sorry, but that anime “butt window” post immediately made this relevant.
I give you the Butt-less Cloak.
I did the parody art, but for the life of me I cannot find where the figurine came from.

The figurine is from Reaper Minis and was featured on Escher Girls in this post. And I had totally forgotten about that when I said I hadn’t see a butt window before. I forgot about the air conditioned butt cloak (and the loin cloth that appears to attach to nothing.) xD

This is my redesign of Skarlet from Mortal Kombat. I did my best!

I demand that you give me her clothes.

Not usually what I would post on Manfire but it is worth noting. Ladies need proper armor for combat.
